Animated Music Videos

a-ha in Take on Me music video

Artists like The White Stripes, Radiohead, Daft Punk, and Gorillaz have given us some of the greatest cartoon animated music videos of all time.

I have to admit though that sometimes, I feel a bit cheated when an artist releases an animated video. I’ll be happy if I never have to see a cartoon version of Dua Lipa again. I also wanted to see Britney Spears in a video for the excellent track Break The Ice. Of course, now that we know what she was going through at the time, it’s understandable that she couldn’t film a music video.

Where do you stand on animated music videos – artistic expression or I-couldn’t-be-bothered-to-show-up-for-a-video-shoot? Sound off in the comments!

  1. From the Brits we have some more songs which might fit in the list:
Paul McCartney -We All Stand Together
    Queen – Innuendo
    Pink Floyd – The Wall
Roger Glover – We All Stands Together

In the 80s, some clay animations were made for old songs:
Nina Simone: My Baby Just Cares For Me
    Jackie Wilson – Reet Petite

Please see if you like them.

  2. My mistake: the Roger Glover song was actually “Love is All”, which peaked #1 in The Netherlands and Belgium.

Another one I forgot is “Subway” by the Avalanches, which peaked #84 in Australia: https://youtu.be/bPIMfOIuEe4

    All the best, Jeff
